The Primary Purpose Group is a fellowship of men and women who meet weekly to study our basic text, the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. Our hope is that all those who have as yet found no answer may begin to find one in the pages of our book and will presently join us on the high road to a new freedom. Our group holds two meetings each week at separate locations. The first meeting is a Big Book study that takes place Monday evenings at 8:00 pm at Ridgeview Institute in Smyrna, Ga. The second meeting of the week is an open speaker meeting held on Friday evenings at 8:00 pm at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church in Sandy Springs, Ga. We love the Big Book and understand that it's vital for us to pass on what was so freely passed on to us. Life has taken on new meaning. Watching people recover, seeing them help others, watching loneliness vanish, seeing a fellowship grow up about us, having a host of friends-these are experiences that we have not missed. We know you will not want to miss them either. Frequent contact with newcomers and each other are the bright spots of our lives. We are attended by newcomers, old-timers, male and female, young and old alike. Anyone who has a desire to stop drinking is welcome. It is our honest desire to be helpful to you. We meet so the newcomer may find the fellowship they seek. We look forward to meeting you.
In Love and Service, The Primary Purpose Group
The Primary Purpose Group was founded in February, 2007 with one specific purpose in mind and that was to bring the focus of our meetings back to the Program of Alcoholics Anonymous. The Primary Purpose Group was founded in February, 2007 with one specific purpose in mind and that was to bring the focus of our meetings back to the Program of Alcoholics Anonymous. That is to learn and then apply what is in the Big Book. Joe McQ. & Charlie P., "The Arkansas Travelers" and The Primary Purpose Group of Dallas had great influence on this group and how we study the Big Book. We do this every Monday evening in three different ways.
Mission Statement?
The forward to the 2nd Edition acknowledges a 75% success rate. Today's numbers are much less.
What is the solution? The Primary Purpose Group has chosen to place the focus back on the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. We want to tell the newcomer that there is a solution to alcoholism, we have had a spiritual awakening as the result of taking the 12 steps and we have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. This is the message we hope to pass on tonight to those who still suffer from alcoholism by studying the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Big Book Study The Monday meeting at Ridgeview Institute offers 3 different ways to approach the Big Book depending on where you are in recovery:1) If you are brand new and have not attended our meeting before, we encourage you to attend the "Foundation Meeting".2) If you've already been to a "Foundation Meeting" one time, please join u
Big Book Study The Monday meeting at Ridgeview Institute offers 3 different ways to approach the Big Book depending on where you are in recovery:1) If you are brand new and have not attended our meeting before, we encourage you to attend the "Foundation Meeting".2) If you've already been to a "Foundation Meeting" one time, please join us in the auditorium for the "Big Book Intro".3) If you've already been to our "Foundation Meeting and through our "Big Book Intro"or gone through The Big Book with your sponsor, we invite you to join us for continued learning using the "Study Guide".Each meeting commences with the collective group gathering in the Ridgeview Institute Day Hospital Auditorium. After a brief prelude together, everyone disperses to their respective meeting (Foundation, Big Book Intro, or Study Guide).
Speaker Meeting On Friday nights at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, we host invited speakers to share their story - "What we used to be like, what happened, and what we are like now" (p. 58, How It Works,Alchoholics Anonymous). We hope you come study with us, because our meetings discuss topics of a very serious nature that are extremely important to everyone in our rooms. We are students of the Big Book and do not consider ourselves to be an authority or speak for AA as a whole. Our only purpose is to be helpful and to pass on the information that when put into action, has helped us be free from alcohol.
